What is the purpose of Memorial Day?
The purpose of Memorial Day is to commemorate all men and women, who have died in military service for the United States.

When is it?
Traditionally observed on May 30 but now officially observed on the last Monday in May.

What are a few ways to show honor and respect on Memorial Day?
  • Make a soldier's day by writing a thank you card or note to send overseas.
  • Show honor and respect by visiting a local veteran’s cemetery, or war memorial.
  • Visit and take cookies to a nearby Veteran’s hospital.
  • Go to a Memorial Day Parade or watch the National Memorial Day Parade on television.
  • Enjoy freedom by spending time with your family.

Additional information: Memorial Day was inspired by the way people in the Southern states honored their dead. After World War I, it was extended to include all men and women, who died in any war or military action. Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day.  All non-essential Government, offices are closed, as are schools, businesses and other organizations. Many volunteers place an AMerican flag on each grave in national cemeteries. Memorial Day is combined with Jefferson Davis’ Birthday in Mississippi.

A few things i will do on memorial day to show honor and respect is spend time with my family and enjoy the freedom we have thanks to these soldiers. it is important to commemorate them because they fought for our freedom and endangered themselves knowing it could possibly take their life away.

Student Success Statement
“If i’ve got correct goals, and if i keep pursuing them the best way i know how, everything else falls into line. If i do the right thing right, I’m going to succeed.” -Dan Dierdorf

Knowing how to do the right think right is very important. For example, if you are suppose to wash the dishes but you keep pausing and taking breaks every 5 minutes, the you are doing the right thing wrong. The reason for that is because you are doing the right thing by washing the dishes but the wrong thing by pausing every so often, which will make what you’re doing take even longer to finish up. Doing the right thing wrong will take up to much of your time and will unfocus you from your main focus. Doing the right thing right will help you get things done much quicker and better because you will only be focused on your main focus. Keep yourself focused on just one thing because the rest doesn't have to matter if you want to get things done the correct way. It is important to make the right decisions because that will lead you up to good things and not bad.

"The reward for doing right is mostly an internal phenomenon: self-respect, dignity (self-worth), integrity, and self-esteem." Dr. Laura Schlessinger
The reward of doing what is right doesnt have to be an object or something given to you. The reward should be you feeling better about yourself. If you feel good about yourself and you feel like you did the right thing then good stuff will come to you. Karma willl always get back to you if you do not do what is right. Point is that you dont need no reward because life itself will reward you with great things. Helping others will help you aswell by making you a better person and someome who can be trusted. It is a great feeling when someone can trust you and it is also a great feeling when you know you did the right thing and that everything will be perfectly fine. Do what is right so right can come to you. Do what is wrong and wrong will come to you. It all depends on your decisions and how you want life to come back at you. Think about what you are doing before you do something that will bring you repercussions in the future or at the moment.

Demand for this profession: 18% job growth for physicians and surgeons, in general, from 2012-2022
Reflection: No, i do not think i would like to become a sports medicine because that is not something i am interested in. I am interested in other type of careers and this one does not seem to catch my attention enough to say i would want to be a sports medicine. A sports medicine is a good career with an average pay but i dont see myself being one and i think i would be better involved in a different carreer.

Phillip Riggs' Four Success Tips
  1.  Work Hard.
  2. Follow your passions. Do things you are interested in doing.
  3. Don't chase after money.
  4. Serve others. Do good things for others, and good things will come to you.
Working hard is one of the most important rules you can follow. What you work for is what you will recieve if you actually work hard enough. Before seeking towards something, you must know what is it that you are reaching for so therefore you must follow your passions. For example having a passion for basketball and wanting to play proffessional ball. In order to achieve that, you must be committed to practice to get better and better by the day. You also have to commit to school in order to play basketball, so you must focus on both things. School plays a major key in what you are interested in doing because education is what makes you successful in life. Chasing after money can be a good thing but at the same time a bad thing. When chasing after money, you only focus on that and plan nothing for your future. Sometimes money can be your motivation to achieve what you want so thats a good thing. If you are good to others, others will be good to you. Being negative towards other people will only bring you negativity and bad moments. Being good to others will bring good to you because you are doing what is right.

World Records

World Record

  1. A referance book published annually, listing world records and national records, both of human achievements and the extreems of the natural world.
  2. World Record Holder: Arthur Guinness
  3. Was set in 1955

Susannah Mushatt Jones, the Guinness Book of World Records holdr for the oldest living human being, has officially passed that distinction on to someone else. Multiple outlets have announced that she passed away on Thursday, May 12. She was 116 years old. Robert Young, a consultant at Jones's public housing facility in Brooklyn, confirmed this sad news to The Associated Press. She was born in 1899, four years before the Wright brothers took their first flight in 1903. "Ms. Jones was the very last American from the 1800's," said Young, who said jones had been ill for about the past 10 days. According to the newspaper, she had a sign in her kitchen that read "Bacon makes everything better." This woman was a genius. "I surround myself with love and positive energy," Jones also told the New York City Housing Authority in 2005."That's the key to long life and happiness."

I am facinated about this world record because some people put themselves down because they are aging when in reality they should thank god that they've come this far in life. They should appreciate their wrinkles and scars because those are symbols of everything you went through in life. Lamenting yourself isn't going to get you nowhere so might aswell live your life to the fullest now that you still have the opportunity to be in this world. Eating well is a major key in your everyday life, so keep yourself healthy for the good of your benefits. You don't want to be elderly and just be stuck in bed with pain. If you treat yourself right now, then you could live your last days to the fullest and the happiest you've ever been. It is possible to live a long life but it just depends on the person, on how they decide they want to live it. You dont know how to appreciate the things you have until you see the end approaching closer and closer to you.

No, i wouldn't want to break a world record, because that isnt something that interests me. Breaking a work record isnt going to help me throughout life. Although it seems like a pretty cool thing to do, i still would not want to.
